A Body is Not a Bad Thing to Be – Emily Hodgkinson

A body on the floor
watches thoughts turning over and over,
tossing like leaves in the wind.
The dizzying sickness of obsession
clouds the eyes, dulling their shine,
and coating everything with the oily smear of anxiety.
Death in introspect,
or pain turned to self-indulgence –
The lively, animated shadows on the outside,
only able to peer in through misted windows,
decide in hypocritical fashion.
But with ceasing thoughts
turning to the wispy skeletons of windblown leaves
finally laid to rest on the ground,
A body is not a bad thing to be.
